I like Excalibur. Sure, it's not the ritziest place in town, but it's cheap! Here's what excalibur is good for, in my opinion: fairly cheap rooms and a large gaming area with lots of low limit games. Usually when I stay here, I never leave the hotel. If I do get sick of the place, I'll walk to some of the other casinos in the area but I always find myself returning to Excalibur soon after.

The location of Excaibur is excellent. NYNY, MGM Grand, Tropicanna, and even Mandalay Bay are all nearby.

Rooms are okay. Nothing special. I'm just glad they got rid of that stone castle wallpaper. Did anyone really want to sleep in a room that looked like a cheesy dungeon?? At least it looks like a normal hotel room now.

Probably the worst thing about this hotel is the food. There just aren't any good restaurants here. Oh well. I don't come to vegas to eat, I come here to gamble.

Compared to the newer hotels on the Strip the almost 20-year old Excalibur is nothing spectacular, but it remains one of the more affordable options in the South Strip area. The size of the sports book is slightly better than average, and the casino gaming area itself is decent sized, however, this is often misleading as the powers-that-be seem to have a preference for crowded higher-priced tables and as a result much of the table space often goes unused even when crowded. That's a bit disappointing.

Drink service was really hit or miss. There was times went I went seemingly hours without being served a drink and other times when I'd barely taken a sip of my drink before being asked if I wanted another.

The standard rooms are pretty standard, as was the variety of food. The Sherwood Forest Cafe on the casino level offers typical sandwich, hamburger and breakfast fare. The variety is solid, the quality is adequate. On the upper level there's a handful of other fast food options (Quizno's, Pizza Hut, etc.) and a slightly nicer Italian restuarant.

As a whole, the Excalibur experience is pretty unremarkable, but because of its central location on the South Strip it remains one of the better options for budget travelers.
